Transformative Change

Transformation of Community

WOKE Literacy Institute

We are a diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice brand that provides training and consulting to Good Troublemakers looking to ignite radical change in their communities. We believe in putting more tools in the toolboxes of community leaders, advocates, and activists through research-based strategies and concepts that help empower them to combat equity detours and resistance within theirselves, communities, and organizations.

What does it mean to be WOKE?

To be WOKE describes the state of a person being alert to injustice in society, especially racism. The WOKE Literacy Institute strives to move individuals from a process of being WOKE to constantly awake through strategies that foster the evolution of anti-whiteness in parallel with anti-racism.

Transformation of Relationships

Blackity Black 365

To be Blackity Black is unique to an individual, a person's cultural identities, and the way in which they express them. Being Blackity Black 365 days of the year supersedes the 28 days of Black History Month. To be Blackity Black 365 embraces the celebration of Black culture, livelihood, linguistics, history, and resilience indefinitely. Embracing Blackity Blackness de-centers the conditioning of whiteness and embraces a culture of celebration, belonging, self love, collective love, and pride.

What does it mean to be Blackity Black 365?

Blackity Black 365 is a social enterprise and cultural empowerment brand cultivating relationships across the DMV area through conversations, blogs, and events. We encourage Black people to be Blackity Black year long by:

  • celebrating Blackness collectively
  • raising awareness about systemic cultural plights
  • leaning on cultural resilience
  • healing collectively through a sense of belonging, meaning, and purpose
  •  and igniting change through advocacy and activism.

By being Blackity Black 365, we will continue to overcome cultural plights and pursue healing.

Transformation of Self

Stay Yoked

Stay Yoked  is a wellness and social change brand that empowers community leaders, advocates and activists, youth and young adults, and community serving organizations to pursue inner-healing through the connection of the mind, body, and spirit to seek human liberation. Stay Yoked serves as a vehicle for social change. While our training is youth and young adult specific, we also specialize in workshops for public serving professionals, community leaders, and organizations. We believe that change is contagious, and it must occur externally and internally to pursue human liberation.

What does it mean to Stay Yoked?

The spiritual meaning of Yoked  is action-oriented. The Yoke balances a person's burden and makes the burden easier to manage. Additionally, other meanings of Yoked are metaphorical  for bondage or servitude. To be Yoked means to pull the load of trauma, oppression, racism, and other injustices alongside or with each other. An evening of the Yoke describes the connection of a person's mind, body, and spirit to the liberation of humanity. We believe change occurs through a transformation of self. To be Yoked means to simultaneously pursue healing internally. which will further transform one's relationships, and the community that surrounds them.
