Are you a Community Health Worker (CHW) looking to ignite transformative change? CHWs are known across work industries as Promotores de Salud, Community Health Representatives, Community Health Advisors, Community Organizers, Outreach Specialists, and other related roles. CHWs provide a forum to share resources, activities, and strategies nationally to improve public health across sectors.
Learn about the power of civic engagement and storytelling for transformative change. The Virginia Community Health Worker Association and Institute for Public Health Innovation are hosting a workshop on The Power of Civic Engagement & Storytelling January 4th from 12PM-2PM. Are you an educator or a student support professional? Addressing the mental health needs of our students remains a top priority as we continue to unpack the effects of the pandemic. Many schools are looking to trauma-informed care to address the mental and social emotional needs of their students. This virtual series looks at trauma and healing through an anti-racist lens, providing your school team with the theory and tools to better meet the needs of today’s students. This is presented by the Collaboration for Inclusive Excellence. This is a training series that takes place once a month beginning January 20 through April 19. Register below using the link.
Good Trouble highlights the rhetorical tension between “Good” and “Trouble.” This is a tension that has been replicated itself across decades and is grounded in the legacy of civil rights activities making intentional acts of troublemaking to dismantle unjust and oppressive laws, policies, and practices. We will explore concepts related to equity detours and resistance to give participants more tools in their toolbox. This is a private training hosted by Friends of the Rappahannock. Learn more about the organization and their upcoming events below.
Many states are beginning to address the impact of ACEs on overall life-long health and wellness. To date, more than 60 statutes have been issued to prevent or mitigate the impact of ACEs with Wisconsin being the first to be recognized as a “trauma-informed state. We will explore concepts related to the recognition of cultural adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and implementation, including policy and practice. This training is like no other trauma-informed care training as we will be applying the Cultural ACES framework in addition to an anti-racist lens every step of the way while also leaving you with information on forming a trauma-informed community network to break silos in your community. This training is hosted by VOCAL Virginia. To learn more about VOCAL Virginia, visit their website below.
